Every year, International Worker's Day on May Day follows soon after Earth Day. Fittingly, the labor movement and climate justice activism are showing stronger alignment than perhaps ever before.
Mason's Dr. Ben Manski was recently interviewed by Mike Johnson of Third Act, an elders activist organization cofounded by Bill McKibben, about the long and rich history of this alignment. As an activist in the 1990s, Dr. Manski helped coordinate the first "Earth Day to May Day" campaigns led by a coalition of scores of labor, environmental, community, farmer, and student organizations in Wisconsin. The practice of "Earth Day to May Day" is now becoming commonplace across North America.
